I apologize if this is off-topic, but I don't know where to ask this...

Netscape 7.1 came with a Mail & Newsgroups application that I have been
using to access Usenet after experiencing many problems with Outlook
Express. I recently downloaded 8.0.1 but have found no way to access my
usenet or e-mail accounts aside from what are essentially bookmarks to
webmail. Is there a Mail & Newsgroups application in 8.0.1 that I'm not
seeing, or do I have to stick with 7.1 for that? Can I uninstall 7.1
but still keep the Mail & Newsgroups application?

Yep, for some reason they removed access to newsgroups from Netscape 8.
I've gone back to using 7.2.

Lot of stupid people out there. There is a purpose behind Netscape
leaving out the Mail & Newsgroup Application. Do you download things
without reading? If you read what you downloaded first, you would have
found out that Netscape 8 is JUST a browser and nothing else.

Might be a good time to discover another Mozilla browser/suite. Mozilla
offers a both email and browser, or you can just download Thunderbird, the
standalone Mozilla email/newsreader program.

http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/ - standalone email client

http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ - great standalone browser

http://www.mozilla.org/products/mozilla1.x/ - browser and email suite

Hope this helps.

Hi, I noticed the same problem. The new Netscape 8.1 has no separate
Mail& NewsGroup application (which i found very nice counterpart for the
Outlook). Not sure why, but i believe that netscape (which is owned by
AoL) so let's call it AoL decided to make that feature WebBased ,
simular to Hotmail.com. Anyway I am keeping my Netscape 7.2 software for
mail and such cause its AWESOME!!! I suggest you do the same.

There's a very good reason why you can't find a mail/news application
in Net 8.x. The reason is because there isn't one. Net 8.x is a
browser only. Net 8.x is NOT an update or upgrade from Net 7.x.

If you like having one program will mail/new, browser, etc, then I
would suggest Seamonkey. Its very similar to Net 7.x, and its a
cousin: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/releases/
